Actively building PassivHaus’es

Our commitment to being a green and ethical business was strengthened recently when we took on 20 Passivhaus homes. The homes are being delivered thanks to a section 106 agreement and Homes England funding following North Somerset Council’s build lease agreement with developers, Stonewood Homes.

Passivhaus certification is the flagship standard for sustainable housing. The high levels of insulation mean that the homes will be easy for our customers to heat.

The new development, which will be marketed as Elm Grove, is located on land south of The Uplands in Nailsea. The homes will be available for rent and through Shared Ownership. The homes will include bungalows which will be adaptable for those with mobility issues.

Keeping streets StreetSafe

Another example of our close relationship with North Somerset Council was shown in our recent financial contribution to the StreetSafe programme, a CCTV network in Weston-super-Mare.

The system received upgrades as well as eight new cameras thanks to a combined investment by Alliance, Avon and Somerset Police and North Somerset Council.

Weston’s Whizzy Wheels gets a new lease of life

Whizzy Wheels in Weston is a place for children and families to have fun and learn how to ride a bike. Our Community Investment Team noticed that the facility had deteriorated, so they decided to get it back to its former glory.

The Community Investment Team were able to draw on Alliance’s Social Value commitments that suppliers provide through our contracts with them. Jones Building Group, Crown Paints and Clevedon Sawmill provided contributions in the form of staff time and materials.

These contributions plus a DIY SOS style call out in the local community together with Safer Stronger North Somerset produced everything that was necessary to put smiles back on the children’s faces.

Alliance Responds to food bank’s urgent appeal

Weston Foodbank put out a critical appeal for basic food stuffs as they were running low, and we were more than happy to help.

Foodbanks are lifelines for those in need and their work in our communities is greatly appreciated. So when they asked, we decided to help with a donation of £1,000 each to Weston Food Bank and Clevedon District Food Bank.

Alliance’s Home Energy Service delivers results for customers

We launched our Homes Energy Service earlier this year. They’re a team of advisers who help our customers to reduce their energy bills whilst keeping their homes warms.

Since the service was launched in the spring they’ve already produced great results for customers. The team’s assistance has been wide ranging from obtaining crisis fuel vouchers, appliance grants correcting metering problems and providing debt support to name a few. They've even helped one customer clear a debt of  £1,200, thanks to their understanding of the system.

As the cold weather has now arrived, we predict that demand for their expertise will grow.
